Champions Trophy is a One Day International (ODI) cricket contest arranged by International Cricket Council and it is the second important tournament after the Cricket World Cup. 2017 Champions Trophy will be held in England and Wales between 1 and 18 June 2017 and it will be the 8th edition of the competition. The top eight teams falling in the top eight rankings of ICC ODI Championship as on 30 September 2015 qualified for the tournament.
India beat Pakistan in the 2013 event by eight wickets at Edgbaston in a rain-effected match and then went on to defeat England by 5 runs at the same venue to claim its second ICC Champions Trophy title. However Pakistan defeated India by 54 runs at Centurion in the 2009 event in South Africa which is interestingly its only triumph over its arch-rivals in a major ICC event.
Australia has won the Champions Trophy two times, once in India in 2006 and second time in South Africa in 2009 while New Zealand won the title in 2000 in Nairobi when it was called the ICC Knock-Out. England is hosting the event for the third time with England previously two times reaching the final of the event held in England. It closely lost the final to the West Indies at The Oval by two wickets in 2004 while it had to suffer a 5 run defeat at Edgbaston in 2013. South Africa won the opening title in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1998 while the trophy was shared between India and Sri Lanka in 2002.
